Hindus always take important step in life according to auspicious timings called ‘muhurats’ whether it is the starting of any new work or buying any important thing. According to Hindu calendar, Akshaya Tritiya is a day which is considered very auspicious to start any type of important work. It is believed by Hindus that any momentous activity started on this day would always be fruitful.

According to Hindu calendar, Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of Vaishakh month i.e. in the month of April-May according to Gregorian calendar. On this day, both Sun and Moon simultaneously give their highest brightness and this day comes only once in a year.

Akshaya Tritiya is also known by the name of ‘Akha Teej’. According to mythology, this day is the birthday of lord Parasurama who was the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Special puja is conducted by people on this day and holy bath is also taken by many people. Worship of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi is done on this day.

Meaning of word Akshaya is imperishable and therefore, it is believed that initiations made for any work on this day always bring success and good fortune. Buying gold on this day is considered to be very auspicious because gold is the symbol of prosperity and wealth. Indian people celebrate wedding, plan long journey and start new business on this day.

It is believed that “SatyaYug” which is first of all four Yugas got started on the day. According to holy Hindu scriptures, Veda Vyasa and Ganesha started writing ‘Mahabharata’ and Ganga Devi also came on earth on this day. According to one other legend, on this day, Lord Krishna presented an Akshaya Patra to Pandavas, a bowl which would produce unlimited amount of food and water and will never go empty.

So, Akshaya Tritiya is a very fortunate day according to Hindu religion.
