Charlize Theron is a South African Actress, whose most distinction feature in her profile is that she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in ‘Monster’. She has a versatile biography with roles ranging from comedy to hard-hitting cinema in her filmography.
Biography: Personal Life
Charlize Theron was born on Aug. 7, 1975, and raised on a farm outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. Her mother is of German descent and her father was of Occitan (French) and Dutch ancestry. When she was 12, Theron left home to attend an arts-oriented private school ‘National School of the Arts’ in Johannesburg where she joined the rigorous dance training program. While home on a school break during 1991, Theron’s parents erupted into a domestic dispute that ended in gunfire and the death of Theron’s father. The shooting was legally adjudged to have been self-defense and her mother faced no charges.
Though seeing herself as a dancer, Theron at 16 won a one-year modeling contract at a local competition, and with her mother moved to Milan, Italy. She was spotted by John Crosby subsequently introduced her to casting agents and also an acting school. Her first foray into films was a non-speaking role in the direct-to-video film Children of the Corn III.

Theron got nominations for the Best Actress Academy Award and Golden Globe for her lead performance in ‘North Country’. In 2008, Theron got named as the ‘Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year. That year she also starred with Will Smith in the superhero film Hancock. She is actively involved in women’s rights organizations.
