GoM formed post #MeToo movement holds first meeting | India News

NEW DELHI: A group of ministers shaped in the wake of the #MeToo motion to improve the authorized and institutional frameworks to protect against sexual harassment at office held its very first conference Monday.

Though the troubles talked over in the conference had been retained private, sources at the ladies and baby development ministry explained Union minister Maneka Gandhi pushed for strengthening the Countrywide Fee for Girls (NCW).

The team of ministers (GoM) is headed by Union house minister Rajnath Singh. Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Gandhi, the women and baby advancement Minister, are its other customers.

According to sources, except Gadkari, who is not in the town, all other ministers participated in the meeting.

They explained two much more these meetings would be held whereby the GoM would propose motion required for successful implementation of the present provisions as nicely as strengthening these frameworks for addressing difficulties relevant to sexual harassment at workplace.

The panel has been set up in the wake of the #MeToo movement wherein quite a few women of all ages publicly named their ‘powerful’ harassers at the office.

India’s #MeToo movement, which started out with actor Tanushree Dutta accusing actor Nana Patekar of harassing her for the duration of the shooting of a Bollywood movie in 2008, escalated sharply with many females coming forward with their grievances towards well-liked personalities.

Previous minister of condition for external affairs M J Akbar, filmmakers Subhash Ghai, Sajid Khan, Rajat Kapoor and actor Alok Nath are among individuals who have been accused of sexual misconduct.
