Kapil Dev Biography (personal aspect): He was born in the Chandigarh city of Punjab on 6th January 1959. His full name is Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj but he is popularly known as Kapil Dev. This former cricketer was the captain of Indian cricket team during the world cup of 1983, when India won the Cricket world cup for the first time. Wisden named Kapil Dev as the Indian Cricketer of the Century, in the year 2002. He served as the national coach for Indian cricket team for ten months during the year 1999 and 2000. Kapil Dev Biography (His Credentials): Kapil Dev has shown his incredible talent in cricket. He wasright-arm pace bowler and also a puissant out swinger. During most of the part of his career, Kapil Dev was the leading strike bowler of the Indian team. During the 1980s Kapil Dev showed his credential by expounding a well in swinging yorker which was efficiently used by him against the tail-enders. Kapil Dev worked as an aggressive batsman and used to naturally strike the ball which was able to drive and hook well. He has helped India in various tough situations by out breaking the competitive team whenever required. He represented Haryana Cricket team and was nicknamed as The Haryana Hurricane in domestic cricket. In the year 1994, Kapil Dev took retirement from the cricket and at them time he proudly held the world record of taking maximum number of wickets in the Test Cricket. This record was broken in the year 2000 by Courtney Walsh. At the time of his retirement, Kapil Dev had the record of taking maximum wickets both in test as well as the ODI cricket. He was the utmost all-rounder of his time having the record of scoring 5000 plus runs and taking more than 400 wickets in the test cricket. He was inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, in the year 2000.
